Laser Tattoo Removal

Have you ever known someone who loves tattoos and has a beautiful array of body art, but has one piece that they wish they had never gotten? It is a lot more common than you would imagine. New technology has made tattoo removal and repairs possible when a tattoo does not come out as expected. Inexperienced tattoo artists make mistakes all the time. Individuals getting tattoos have regrets over their choice days, weeks, months, or even years down the road. When you are faced with the prospect of living with bad body art or having it removed you now have laser tattoo removal to help you through your decision.

In the past

It wasn't long ago that your only options when dealing with unwanted tattoos involved pain, and lots of it. One very old method of tattoo removal is called dermabrasion. Dermabrasion involves scrubbing out the tattoo with salt - extremely painful, leaves dreadful scarring, and opens you up only to infection if you're lucky. Cryosurgery, excision, and skin-grafts are still used today in some parts of the world, though they too are far less popular than more modern methods involving lasers. If you lived in ancient Greece, you would have been subject to having wine, lime, garlic, or pigeon excrement injected under the skin to achieve the removal of your tattoo.

Tattoo Removal technology

Laser Tattoo Removal generally refers to using what they call Q-switched lasers to remove pigment from the skin. These lasers allow for a much less invasive, and more effective removal process.  The technology for laser tattoo removal began developing in the early 1960s with limited success. By the late 1990s however, the technology finally began to mature. A tattoo consists of several thousand particles of pigment beneath the skin. Normally, your body will reject and remove foreign particles, but in the case of tattoo ink, the particles are too large to be removed. Laser tattoo removal systems heat up the particles so that they are forced to fragment into smaller pieces, allowing your body to eliminate them on its own.

What to expect

The sensation of having a tattoo removed by laser is not considered to be any more painful than getting a tattoo. Having the procedure done consists of a series of treatments and it may take anywhere from 6 months to a year for the tattoo to fully fade. You will need to avoid tanning or too much sun for 4-6 weeks before your treatment. In some cases, it may take a series of treatments 4-6 weeks apart to achieve your personal goals.

What does it cost?

Due to high demand the average tattoo studio charges anywhere from $150-$500 per treatment. Inflicting Ink offers prices starting at half that cost depending upon your circumstances and the size and color of your tattoo. If you or a friend would like more information about laser tattoo removal, and specifically the Quanta Q Plus C and T laser removal system, contact Jeff at (401) 683-5680 to schedule a removal consultation today.
