Tattoo Events We Like in October 2011

Here are some of the charity tattoo events and nationwide tattoo events that we like in October of 2011.

The first-annual Tattoo-A-Thon to benefit RI Community Food Bank will be held at PowerLine Tattoo on Reservoir Avenue on Oct. 29.
By Kimberly Goldthwait

On Saturday, Oct. 29th, PowerLine Tattoo will be holding its first annual Spooktacular Tattoo-A-Thon. Artists Evan Olin, Jay Blackburn, Mike Ladoux and Shane Baker have created over 20 pieces of custom original autumn and Halloween flash.
“These pieces will only be available that day.” sais owner Evan Olin. “After the 29th, we will retire them until next year’s event.”
Some examples of the artwork are accompanying this article, but all of the pieces will be available to view on the PowerLine Tattoo website.
The proceeds from this event, will go directly to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The doors will open at 11 a.m. and artist will donate their time, equipment, and materials on a first come first serve basis. While you are waiting, there will be snacks and Halloween flicks to watch.
“We want the event to be an all out Halloween Bash” says Kara Olin, VP of PowerLine Tattoos. “We are wearing costumes and are encouraging all of our clients to do the same.”
The Cost for each piece will be $60 or $50 with the donation of two can goods.
Doors open at 11am and close at 9pm. Artist will stay to accommodate anyone who arrives during that window.

Are People Still Fired Over Tattoos?

Apparently this Mansfield, Ohio woman says she was.

Mansfield Woman Claims She Was Fired For Tattoo

October 24, 2011
MANSFIELD, Ohio - Abby Carper of Mansfield said she was fired for her body art.

Carper, a home health care worker, said he was terminated because of her tattoos, even though she had them when she was hired.

She has tattoos on her arm, her shoulder, her back and she still plans to get more. They include a fairy, a dragon, and her children's names.

Carper said when she was hired a few months ago by Care Companions of Ohio, her tattoos were not an issue.

"Most elderly men I take care of are veterans and I've seen naked ladies on their arms, bulldogs for Marines, anchors. You name it, I've seen it," said Carper.

Then two weeks ago, the 31-year-old Mansfield mother of five said she was told her body art didn't belong in her line of work.

Carper's mother told ONN's Denise Alex that it should be the quality of the care, not the tattoos, that matters.

ONN-TV tried contacting Care Companions of Ohio, but they not yet responded.

Carper said she plans to filed a complaint with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission alleging discrimination.

Carper is now working as a home health aid at another Mansfield company.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration estimates more than 45 million Americans have at least one tattoo.

GEELONG tattoo artist Lucky Diamond Rich has inked his name in the Guinness World Record books for the sixth time running.

For the sixth year in a row, he's been listed in the Guiness World Records book as the most tattooed man in the world, the Geelong Advertiser reports.

He has had his entire body (and he means entire) covered in tattoos, not once, but twice.

Lucky said he has never been inhibited in any way by his physical appearance and was told by his parents as a child to do whatever made him happy.

"I've lived like that since I was a little boy and have had a life beyond my wildest dreams,'' he said.
