Tattoo Removal Takes a Few Sessions, But It Is Worth It

Tattoos with lots of color can seem difficult to remove, because they take longer to remove with laser. This can be a deterrent for people who have large pieces that they want to remove, but all is not lost. If you go to a studio that is knowledgeable and has current laser technology, you can rest assured that your tattoo will be removed in the shortest possible time with the best possible outcome. This article goes over the reasons why some people refrain from laser tattoo removal, and why it is in your best interest to do so if you really hate your ink.

Although tattoos have become more socially acceptable in recent years, many people are having them removed, a process that is not as extensive or painful as one might think. As anyone who keeps up with pop culture knows, tattoos are extremely popular. According to a 2013 Pew Research Center study, four in 10 people ages 18 to 29 have tattoos and, according to a 2012 Harris poll, about 15 percent of people with tattoos regret getting them. “People get tattoos removed for many reasons: They have an ex-partner’s name, an ugly tattoo that is no longer wanted or because they outgrew the tattoo they received when they were 18,” said Marc Bennett, co-owner with Rich Metteer of San Diego Laser Removal. Some people are turning to tattoo removal creams that are widely available online, according to the Mayo Clinic. However, there is no evidence that they work. “At best, tattoo removal cream might fade or lighten a tattoo,” the clinic says, but “the tattoo will remain visible ... and skin irritation and other reactions are possible.” The process of laser removal involves breaking up the tattoo pigment into smaller sections.

Tattoo Removal Becoming A Growing Trend

Have you ever wanted to get rid of your tattoos? It may seem like a big commitment to go for a few sessions for laser removal, but it's less of a commitment than the actual tattoo. This article highlights the growing trend of laser tattoo removal...

It's estimated that one in five Americans have a tattoo, and that number only continues to grow. But as more and more people are getting ink done, there's a growing number looking to get them removed.

"Oh birds, people like getting tattoos of birds. Lettering has gotten really big," said Jeff Mann at Vishnu Bunny Tattoo in Sioux Falls.

After 20 years of tattooing, Mann has seen it all.

Mann said, "You see lots of fads come and go. In the 90's the tribal stuff was really big."

The one thing that remains constant, though, is the number of people walking through their doors on Phillips Avenue in Sioux Falls. Business is better than ever. Their biggest customers? Women.

"It seems like you tend to do bigger tattoos on men so as far as hours in the chair it's probably close to a tie but as far as individual people coming in for work I think it's probably 60-40 women to men," said Mann.

Vishnu does around 500 tattoos a month, but the canvas isn't always a clean slate.

"Sometime we'll have something come in that just isn't executed well, it's too light and patchy but if the foundation is in the right place you can kind of go in and fix it as what it is," said Mann.

But when nothing can be done, or it's just time for it to be gone, many are turning to laser tattoo removal.

Natasha Christensen of Sioux Falls said, "I was tired of covering them up."

Christensen got her tattoo when she was 18. That was 12 years ago. She's simply at a different place in her life.

Christensen said, "I just got it with a friend and it seemed like a good idea at the time but it's just not who I am anymore."

She got her first laser treatment in September of last year. Four treatments in, what once was a rose, is now starting to fade.

"That is actually the laser shattering the pigment, so we can tell where we've been by the graying of the pigment. And whether or not the ink is responding."

Tattoo Psychology: Art or Self Destruction? Modern-Day Social Branding

What does a tattoo say about the person sporting it? When you got your tattoos did you do so intentionally, to make a statement? Tattoos are a way to start conversations, and sometimes a way to initiate a relationship with a stranger. This article discusses the psychology of tattoos, why people get them, and the findings are very interesting.
Body art, body bling, self-graffiti, walking billboards, fashionable ink accessories... Each of these expressions depicts the physical nature of the tattoo. What's often NOT discussed, however, is the emotional side of tattoos.
I vividly remember the first time I saw a "tramp stamp." A woman was reaching for something in the front row of a large auditorium and a few rows of men and women witnessed her walking artistry. Everyone had a reaction. And once she left the room, we all talked about it. It was like group therapy.
The responses ranged from "She's definitely a party girl, probably drinks a lot, and has a lot of sex and a rough childhood, “to” She’s probably really creative, edgy, a leader and an independent thinker." Some liked her more, some liked her less and many guys were more interested in her because of the tattoo. Whatever the response, we were all intrigued, and each of us conjured up our own personal version of her story -- all from the sight of a well-placed tattoo.
In those days, tattoos were still controversial. Now, they're more accepted than ever. You could even call them "trendy." In the nightlife scene, tattoo artists are rapidly becoming a popular career choice. Sooner or later, we're going to see a leather-clad, tattoo-sleeved, multi-pierced guy named Rocko at our kid's career fair standing next to the "Be a DJ" booth. Although tattoos have been around for more than 5,000 years (Egyptians used tattoos to differentiate peasants from slaves and social branding has been around a long time), ink art has really exploded in the last 25 years.
Is it social branding?
Tattoos are a conversation starter. Either there's a story attached or a "skin"-showing session or an emotional response derived from the sight of ink art. And the emotional response from the sight of tattoos leads to a modern-day version of social branding.
"He must be tough."
"She's probably easy."
"He'll never get a corporate job."
"She just wants to drink vodka tonics and dance on a speaker."

Of course there are variables. In my opinion, the older you are, the less chance you'll be forgiving of tattoos. Neck and face tattoos are usually not as well-received as other locations no matter what your age (sorry, Big Mike). Where you put the tattoo, how may tattoos you have, what the tattoos is and the size of the tattoos all help shape the emotional response of the viewer. And that observer could be anyone from a potential boss, a family member or a date.

It’s Chinese To Me: Why You Might Not Want to Tattoo Yourself in A Foreign Language

Undeniably, Chinese script is beautiful. If you take a look at the subject of a lot of popular tattoos, you will find Chinese characters worked into to many of them. But if you are to look closer, you may be surprised at what the true translation of many of the Chinese-scripted tattoos actually mean. Some people inked with the Chinese language may have ended up with a different message than what they had intended.

The blog, Hanzi Smatter translates people's ink and explains how the tattoos often either misuse Chinese characters or simply create phrases that are completely incorrect. Sadly, the result is some truly odd body art.

To take a look at some truly bad (and funny) tattoos with Chinese script, click on the following link:

Do you have a tattoo that you question its true translation? Don’t worry, even bad tattoos don’t have to be permanent. A few sessions with a Quanta USA laser, and a bad tattoo is ancient history.

Female Tattoo Artists Face Challeges to Break Into Business

The tattoo industry remains a male-dominated industry. Female tattoo artists face many challenges to break into the tattoo industry and make names for themselves. Some female tattoo artists get their start by working with the cosmetic aspect of tattooing, applying permanent eyeliner, permanent lip liner and such; while other female tattooists are simply artists following a passion and a dream.

The celebrity status of the super-model-tattoo-artists like Kat von D and Lea Vendetta have attracted attention to the work of female tattooists, but have also set a high standard for their female colleagues in the industry. While male tattoo artists can be a little sloppy and continue to have clients in their chairs, female tattoo artists are held to a higher standard of fashion and hygiene, and are often judged by their appearance not their work.

To read about one woman’s story of how she became a success in the tattoo industry, click on the following link:

Permanent Makeup Helps Restore Strength and Confidence in Scottish Nurse

A Scottish nurse battling cancer for the fifth time finds that permanent makeup has helped to restore her strength and confidence. Susanne McCafferty, who is blind in both eyes, and fighting a rare form of spinal cancer, was left unable to apply her own makeup as she had done routinely throughout her adult life. Her husband even tried to assist her with her makeup application, but McCafferty was dissatisfied with the result. Susanne’s life changed one day when she heard about a local makeup artist who was offering people suffering from illness the opportunity to have makeup permanently tattooed.

The Glasgow, Scotland based makeup artist happily assisted Susanne with the cosmetic procedure of permanently applying lip-liner, eyeliner and eyebrows on her. The work was done with a micro-pigmentation technique, a gentle form of tattooing. After the cosmetic procedure, Susanne is delighted with the outcome. She feels that she can face the world confidently and continue to battle her disease with renewed strength.
